Requirements for Ballot Access Near Halfway Point

With just nine months to go before the November 7th election, John Hagelin is on the ballot or has met the requirements in nearly half of the 50 states. Director of Party Building Tom Stanley says the party is ahead of its 1996 pace but is behind where it hoped to be at this stage of the campaign. Ballot access has been secured in 18 states, and requirements are nearing completion in five others. Currently, petition efforts are taking place in four states nearing the filing deadline: Alabama, North Carolina, Oklahoma, and Wyoming.

“The sooner we can complete ballot access, the better,” says Mr. Stanley. “As the election draws nearer and other candidates begin scrambling to attain signatures, the cost per signature nearly triples.”

Mr. Stanley says there is an urgent need for petitioners this spring and summer. Petitioners will be paid for their efforts. Those interested should contact ballot access coordinator David Shapiro at (828) 262-5658.
